1 Approval of July Minutes

Deferred until the Secretary is present.

2 RBA Update – Spencer Klaassen

The new Pittsburgh, PA (David Lampe) and Eugene, OR (Michal Young)  RBAs have been brought on board.

The board approved David Danovsky as the new RBA for San Diego, CA.

3 Adding Ultra Versions of the K-Hound and P-12 Awards

A number of the Board members were contacted regarding the proposal to create an “Ultra K-Hound” award for earning ten K-Hound awards, in any number of years. Subsequently, an Ultra P-12 award was also proposed, for a largely different rider demographic.

It was noted that each new award requires initial, non-trivial setup work on the website, including website content, database, eligibility logic, and store purchase logic.

Concerns included that RUSA already has a number of distance awards (the 1000k-5000k Distance Awards, K-Hound, Mondial, Galaxy), as well as others which require riding a lot of aggregate distance (Ultra Randonneur, for example), and that therefore that space is already well addressed.

The board requested the Awards Committee to have a strategic discussion about where the RUSA awards program should be heading, in the interest of promoting RUSA core goals.

4 Extending Time Limit for Completion of P-12

A rider had completed over 100km of his twelfth qualifying ride for his first P-12 when run into by motorist. Has petitioned for a way to earn his P-12, either by construing the rules to say rider must have completed the minimum required distance for rides that qualify for the award (e.g., 100km of a 110km Permanent Populaire), or to be given extra time (after his recovery) to redo the ride. The board voted to decline the request.

5 Website Update

Flèche results submissions are now operational.

Next Up:

  • Dart/Arrow results submission.
  • RBA insurance obligations/payment report and payments handling.

Website committee position openings have been announced, specifically recruiting software engineers.

6 Santa Rosa Region

The board discussed the future of the Santa Rosa region, its continued relationship to the sponsoring club, and the low percentage of RUSA membership and RUSA member participation in the Santa Rosa brevets, despite the presence of a core group of volunteers and riders.
