  3. Giving RUSA Distance Credit for SR600 Completion (Mark)

    Discussion

It was agreed that the rider would need to submit the RUSA waiver before the ride. The rider must decide beforehand if they are riding the route as a RUSA 600k (40hrs) or an ACP SR600k (50hrs). They can't decide at the end which one they have completed, in the case of a 40hr or less finish time.

The necessary RUSA website changes were possible and not overly complicated. The SR600 would be a special annotated permanent, and the results would be pending until the ACP issued the certificate (once a year), and then they'd be updated.

The only possible hitch is that the owner of a US-based SR600 route may choose not to use our waiver and not enter the results into the RUSA results database.

We (RUSA) are able to refer our members to the SR600 events of which the owners have chosen to run through RUSA (waiver/insurance).

There was a short discussion about finding the info on the ACP site. (http://www.audax-club-parisien.com/, under Organisations->Super Randonnee)

    Proposal

Lynne moves to approve the proposal as drafted in Mark's email.

    Eric seconds.

    Voting

    Passed unanimously.

  4. Reflectivity Guidelines Revision (Mike)

Mike stated that we have put the guidelines on the website, and they talk specifically about EN1150. Reflective gear with that certification is not readily available in the US. We have boxed ourselves in with that language. The PBP document accepts both EN1150 and EN471 (work gear standard). There are many more options in adult sizes in the US for EN471, so let's expand to include both those standards.

Bill said that PBP is one thing, but if we eventually go to a standard, if there is no mesh option, people might not even buy them from our store.

It was noted that there are thousands of American randonneurs who don't go to France. The riders who do go to France always have the backup option of buying a vest in France. He wants to have US riders get a vest for a good price.

Is it desired to get vests for safety, and mesh option, and not necessarily with an eye to PBP. The safety guidelines should be expanded to include the ANSI vests. There are three or four codes out there, all of them are fine. They have similar amounts of striping, and are made with the same kind of material.

The square inches standard will remain; as people will craft their own, and recumbent riders often need to do something different to get the desired visibility.

We do need to make it clear how much reflectivity is needed on the front/side/back.

Spencer will circulate the next version of the document to the RBAs and get feedback.

  5. Election Update

The bylaws call for 45 day voting period, we have 60 days.

Mike has sent the candidate statements to Don B for the website.

Candidates: Mark Roberts, Rob Hawks, Susan Otcenas, Bill Bryant, Ronald Bevin.

    Spencer Klaassen for RBA

  6. Newsletter Update

The newsletter is in the mail today (Sept 10), it looks great, and there is a good nighttime riding picture on the cover. He is working on the next issue right now, and will get contributions to Janice in the next week or so.

  7. Handbook Update

Mike checked with Carl on status; second run will be printed by end of next week.

Lynne suggested asking Don Hamilton what was the first member number which received the first new edition, and then excluding that and all higher RUSA numbers from the mailing list.

Mike noted that the new handbook is coming at a good time, to wrap up the year and head into the PBP year.

  8. RBA Calendar Planning

Next year's calendar should be wrapped up by Sept 30.

We will leave the next meeting date at Oct 1 for this time.

ACP deadline - Mark thinks it is Oct 15. They ask for it in a special format; it takes several days to get it organized and he does that. It is due to the ACP on the 15th, he'll be back by then. Final approval by the RUSA Board after the 10th would make it a challenge.

  9. Officer Reports

    Secretary

There was an email exchange with Audax UK (forwarded to the B oard) asking how we were organized; they are contemplating changing their organization and are asking other national organizations how they do it.
