Highlights of January 13, 2010 RUSA Board Meeting

  1. Officer Election - 2010. The Board elected RUSA's officers for the upcoming year. For 2010, RUSA's President is Lois Springsteen; Vice-President is Mike Dayton; Treasurer is Eric Vigoren; and Secretary is Edward Robinson.
  2. American Randonneur Award. After consideration of many deserving nominees, the Board selected Mark Thomas as recipient of the 2009 American Randonneur Award. The Board expressed its gratitude for Mark's many years of dedicated service in support of randonneuring in general and RUSA in particular, and it recognized his accomplished ambassadorship on behalf of the sport at all levels -- locally, nationally, and internationally.
  3. RBA Souvenir and Medal Sales. RUSA President Lois Springsteen discussed her recent explanation to RUSA's RBAs regarding the organization's decision to end sales of medals and souvenirs to RBAs. RUSA had received questions from a number of RBAs when the updated policy was announced.
  4. PBP 2011 Communications and Planning. The Board discussed issues that it hoped Jennifer Wise would be able to gain information about during her attendance at the ACP's upcoming annual awards ceremony. Also under ongoing discussion were PBP registration concerns and how the ACP might manage national rider quotas, should that become necessary.
  5. RBA Reimbursements. The Board approved the organization's annual reimbursement of RBA expenses for 2009.
  6. Committee Reports. The Board received committee reports from the Membership Committee, Newsletter Committee, Route Committee, Rules Committee, and Souvenir Committee. Eric Vigoren also reported to the Board as Treasurer, and John Lee Ellis provided an update in his role as RBA Liaison.
  7. RUSA Apparel. The Board considered options for offering a high-quality rain jacket to RUSA members.
  8. Meeting Schedule. To better serve the organization's ongoing needs, the Board agreed to add another live meeting to the annual calendar. The Board now will conduct live meetings at least six times per year.
