Board Discussion Of Davis RBA

With uncertainty about whether a volunteer would step forward in this club and assume the role of RBA, the RUSA Board extended the RBA application deadline for DBC until August 17.

2009 1200km events

The board discussed the various 1200K rides proposed for 2009, including (Davis - 7/6/09); (CO - 9/16/09); (PA - 9/30/09) and (Shenandoah - 6/6/08). It was also noted that an event had been proposed in eastern Canada and that there would be no Cascade in 2009.

Upcoming board elections

Mike Dayton announced the candidates who had been nominated and agreed to run for board seats: Bill Bryant, Edward Robinson and Eric Vigoren for two board seats; John Lee Ellis for RBA Liaison. He also mentioned that email voting would again be allowed and that the deadline for voting would be set at Oct. 15 to take into account slow newsletter deliveries to some regions. The board discussed putting profiles and the ballot pdf on the RUSA Website.

New, retiring RBAs

The board discussed several new RBAs that were approved to replace retiring officials: Bob Redmond replaced Donn King in the Santa Rosa, CA region. Andy Akard replaced David Bundrick in Atlanta, GA region (Audax Atlanta), James Kreps replaced Frank Paulo in the Chicago, IL region (Great Lake Randonneurs), Tony Goodnight replaced Richard Lawrence in the High Point, NC region (Bicycle for Life), Leroy Varga replaced Brian Mazur in NYC/NJ (New Jersey Randonneurs). The board noted the 2009 schedule issues each would be allowed to host. Other retiring RBAs that were noted included: James Sharp (Davis, CA), James Severance (Yellowstone-Tetons, ID), and Jennifer Barber (Central, NY).

Plaque style awards

Treasurer Eric Vigoren noted that the cost to RUSA for the plaque style awards (American Randonneur Challenge and Coast-to-Coast 1200km) is about $45. To recover more of the cost while still providing a membership benefit, the board agreed to increase the price for the awards to $25, up from the current price $10. The price for R-12 and Ultra Randonneur Awards remained at $10.
